Trip - Sentosa - Underwater World

Hi Blog,

After I had done planning our Penang Itinerary and read about the closure of Underwater World at Sentosa news. (source) & (source) I felt upset... and started to miss that place....

I remembered when I was young, Underwater World was one of my memorable places but due to high pricing in the past, If I can remember, Adult ($20+) and Child ($10+); so one time experience was filling enough. And now they reduced their price to encourage Singaporeans and others for the last visit.

So I decided to spend my Friday rest to visit Underwater World, and thanks YaoMing accompanying me.

Clear weather!
Walk in and Yes, SAVE MONEY!  We will walk to Underwater World.
Happened to find one FREE display outside Eyes Trick Museum
so....... let's take a Selfie :D
I guessed it is the Resort World of Sea Aquarium gains most of the profit
which gives Underwater World a great financial challenge
While walking to Underwater World and Spotted an unique brown mushrooms
Caught Lv 2 creature!
Saw this old monorail tracks.... It was left out and forgotten.... so sad.....
I was excited to take monorail around sentosa when I was young but now it was gone....

When I was young, seeing this cylindrical fish tank will get me excited.
But... it looks so inferior than Sea Aquarium.
The touchy touchy session.
Last time, there was a lot of Seastars and fishes, but now.... I don't even see anything at all...
This is new.
Touch Stingray? Seriously?

Underwater World has a lot of Sharks, naturally they have shark embryo to show. There are shark embryos development station. It is interesting to see the young shark moving within the embryo.

One interesting station is to touch the fishes from outside tanks.

By putting your own hands and touch the fishes
Interesting method to let the visitors get closer to the underwater world
I shall try but I think again... it is not healthy for the fishes....
Our oily and dirty hands aren't helping the fishes...
Freshwater Parrot fish
Underwater World made another station to show case freshwater fishes or living things too.

some information about Prehistorical creatures
Look at the size of this (fake one)
Typical Sea water fishes
Look at the face of the kids looking at Arapaima, I was mad and disgusted by some people added in some nasty comments, "look at the size of the fish! It's Meat MUST be tasty!" >:(
It is also sad to see one of the arapaimas have an unhealthy and deformed bend body....

Conclusion

Overall... This is how I feel about the closure of Underwater World.

Underwater World in 25 years ago was one of the popular tourist attraction, that period of time, Sentosa had free monorail ride to travel around the whole Island.

As I can remember, around Underwater World that time, there was a theme park (forgot its name) nearby. The high ticket price will kill a typical Singaporean especially those with family members, so only tourists will visit the place. Underwater World also hosted some interesting events like underwater wedding or wedding proposal (source and source) to attract people to engage the use/visit of the place.

But as when the monorail had been removed for the Resort World, and a new attraction Sea Aquarium was installed at the convenient location, which hits so hard on their business revenue ... Making Underwater World becomes one of the inaccessible and forgotten places ever...

Plus news about Pink Dolphin (one of the Underwater World attraction) got sick (source) had upset many Singaporeans for poor maintenance, despite of that Underwater World spokeman claimed it is normal but wasn't good enough to convince the people, badly affected their business... From what I see, a few fishes died in their tank during my visit... and how an Arapaima got so sick with bend body.... I know they really running out of funding...

Oh well... now Underwater World has decided to close down.... it was an Inevitable move. Good Bye Underwater World... You gave me good memories and I will always remember it.

Jeff
