Hi Blog,
Honestly, the haze condition in Singapore was bad, at an unhealthy range. I wanted to go for a hike, which made me think twice... In fact, I wouldn't think twice; I would go for a hike because not many people would be hiking in such conditions!
| Check up the condition. It was early morning, as if it was about to rain. |
But where should I go for a hike? I want to visit Mandai Forest... However, there was a place I had thought of a long time ago, but I cannot recall it.
| Plus, I was so occupied during the weekend. From early morning, around 7 a.m., I had to attend an activity that lasted until the afternoon. It was a long day on Saturday too... |
| After the activity, I travelled to the west, and halfway through, I recalled the place I needed to visit: Lorong Terigu bunker (not official name), which I had visited in July 2022 (blog post). I exited at the nearby station. |
| My first transformation was from my formal attire to a trisuit. |
| Shall we explore that place? Honestly, I don't have high hopes of being able to access it because in 2022, they were working on a pavement nearby and eventually blocked public access. So I don't know whether they will remove it or not. Then I saw a hiker's post saying their group visited the place, which means it is still accessible. We shall see. |
| What a hazy day... Moody. |
However, it will be a quiet afternoon.
| Ah, a new Bukit Timah Railway signage, which I still preferred over the old one. |
| (Nov 2016) It was a long time ago, one of my older hikes. I love the rustic vibe. |
| Anyway, I wanted to snap some more photos here with my phone; however, it only has 30% battery left, which won't last throughout my hike if I need GPS, so I won't. |
| Was it due to the haze or the late afternoon that not many hikers were around? Oh yeah, just check the sky behind me; it was grey, and I could hear thunder. |
| Walking down this path alone made me think about how far I've come and rounder I become. I started hiking back in March 2015 and haven’t stopped since! I guess that’s when I really started finding my purpose in blogging. |
| While reflecting, I arrived at the spot and it was fenced in. |
| They are building new pavement. |
| Well, you know... Nothing will stop me. |
| I just want to rediscover the place. |
| Forgive me and may the spirit guides me along. |
| People see woods, I see paths. |
| Hmm, maybe in the future, I will be able to access this place openly. |
| They are still doing work here. |
| I could hear the noise from the ongoing work, so it was better not to proceed any further... |
| It seems I will need to proceed along this unexplored path, as no one has ventured this way before. |
| The purpose was to enter the forest and stay away from sight. If I am given a chance to hide in the woods, I know how to conceal myself. Haha |
| I wondered what was here before. There was also an abandoned yacht somewhere here. |
| But that was not my main objective. Right now I need to figure out a way to find that bunker. |
| This is a positive sign. |
| It didn't take long; I found it. Did you? |
| Can see it now? |
| This! This is the wall where the Lorong Terigu Bunker is. |
| Hmm, I don't remember this place being exposed like that. Did you see another wall or border too? |
| No time to waste, let's get going! |
| Just look at how tall this wall is. |
| And look at how thick the wall is here! |
| Speaking on how tall the wall is, you should not conclude so fast; just check the other side of the wall. |
| I am half the height of this wall! |
| Ahhh... I am glad to have located you today. It appears you are still intact. |
| Without any graffiti, which means this place is less well known to many. |
| I hope it will stay this way, as its history and purpose are unknown. Its name, Lorong Terigu bunker, is not even the actual name of this place. |
| Because this place is located near that road/path, it doesn't mean this place is named that. And what is the purpose of this place? It isn't a place for ammunition or anything... |
| It has a very thick ceiling for sure. I should have brought my drone to check the top of it. |
| It looks like a prison, but there are two doors: metal doors on the outside that open outward, and wired doors on the inside that can be locked and open inwardly. |
| And the location of this place... I won't say it's a bunker. It's more like a storage space. |
| Let's have a closer look inside. It is 'clean' inside, though I doubt it has been used for a long while. No toilets around, so definitely not a prison. And no electric circuits either, so humans probably aren't meant to be here. |
| Perhaps I should change 'bunker' to 'storage bunker' because a bunker usually goes underground and is concealed from above to avoid detection. It has a strong ceiling and is hidden in the woods. There are many such rooms. |
| Oh no, the sky is roaring. It's going to rain soon, and my phone battery is at 10%. I didn't bring a water bottle, so I've been exploring without drinking anything. I wanted to explore further, but I have to return... |
I am glad that I rediscovered this place and will come back again once the path outside is completed.
| I took another way to exit the forest, and I regretted it. |
| Because the foliage here is knee-high and the softer ground makes me worry about snakes or insects beneath, I'm so sorry for stepping and thankful that nothing bad happened. |
| Actually, I just wanted to find an excuse to explore this week, as I have been so busy lately. I tried to squeeze in some pocket time for myself. |
| Maybe I could consider hiking after my morning work. I will wait for the haze to reduce. |
Overall, rediscovering the Lorang Terigu Storage Bunker (unofficial name) is a joy after so many years since I last visited. It gives me a sense of achievement, which I will try to celebrate through my small accomplishments. There is nothing worth making any great contributions or announcements about; the joy I got from this exploration comes from learning more about the place and finding it.
Jeff
