Trip - Universal Studio Singapore Halloween Horror Nights 2022

Hi Blog,

Finally! My yearly affair, Halloween Horror Nights was happening. For more detail, you can check dejiki.com for more professional photos and in-depth information. This post was just my personal experience trip.

After two years plus of the pandemic, Singapore started to open up and RWS took this chance to host a Halloween event - Halloween Horror Nights 10! To be honest, I expect 10 will be a big BANG but...
Anyway, I was supposed to stop myself from going to Halloween Horror Nights again... but my sister, her GF and her friend hoping that I can go with them as they know nothing about the RIP arrangement as well as I do; So... I got dragged in again...

Thank Heaven for not raining, it will be a bumper if it rained.
Universal Studio presenting Halloween Horror Nights 10!
Since fate held me, I shall embrace this.
Finally got a chance to snap a picture in front of the globe before other people got into my frame
There were early-birds queued to get to the front line of the ceremony.
The six main characters of the night and... six sponsors.
VIP reception had not operated yet
Check out the price for RIP tour... lucky I paid lesser... but returned guests will pay even lesser which is not available this time round.
So... in order to have a returned guest discount for next year, it requires a whale to take the wallet-damage.
VIP reception started to host their guests
Verification started. Weird thing was... I don't get to see the ticket at all... Lucky they helped me to get the tickets
Old, rusty and weedy decoration here.
Another lanyard added into my collection and our tour will be guided by Karen.
We were ready! Let's go!
Many daytime guests were still exiting and time for shift exchange to us.

DIE-ning with The Dead

Based on our previous experience with the meal... vegetarian meal will be a headache... For this RIP tour, I noticed they included our dinner as part of our tour.
So after I placed my purchase, I emailed them to request a vegetarian option.
Glad they had such an arrangement for us :D but... hiccups happened... The restaurant manager told me that I registered myself on the wrong date. I was dumbfounded... when I saw my name on 13th Oct... Then he continued by telling me, it was not his fault for such a mistake... I was rather irritated and showed him the email immediately on the corrected date... He was speechless and will try on working on something out... but really... it almost got me just now...
Breathe in and out, and admire the beautiful decoration here
I wondered how they made this weedy thing.
What an interesting restaurant here. I love the leather seat which made this place look classic
The weedy decoration helped to spice up the whole place
I am quite interested in fake candles; they look so beautiful.
Oh yes! Pumpkinhead - a must during Halloween.
Nice diagram on the floor. I wonder how did they come out with such a design.
Meaty starter dish on an Ouija board, and I didn't get to taste our vegetarian starter dish because we were delayed somehow.
Fizzy beverage with hidden pearls
Instead of steak, we were served two pieces of tasty portobello mushroom and cockroach on our plate.
Honestly, it was quite delicious and I will like to learn to cook
Lastly, a bloody brain dessert made of ice cream :D
Oh my, looked messy and bloody.
Finally to have a Sabako scare-actor to come to our table for a photoshoot
Oh yes! one free gift from USS - Blood bag! Yes! I always want to try this one out in my previous tours many years ago.
Overall, Die-ing with The Dead was an interesting program to make the RIP experience a special one. But due to the initial hiccup, shortage of time to rush for the open ceremony and the restaurant's fixed layout - we didn't get to enjoy the mini skit because we were seated far away at a corner; we didn't know what was going on and just some random loud speeches and laughter from the quests... Food wise was decent and hope they can have a vegetarian-friendly option in future.

Scare score: 1/5 (Not scarily but I understand it won't be nice to go around scaring the guests while dining too. So the score does not justify it here.)
Content: Skit wise 0.5/5 (we can't see anything) Food wise 3.9/5 (At least our food was resolved.)

Opening Scaremony - The Silenced Auction

The only joy I had enjoyed and felt proud of when I got the RIP package was because of this... In front of the crowds and enjoyed the premium experience for the ceremony and other stuff.
(Credit L) Group photo together before anything started
For the start, they ran through a series of the past Halloween Horror Nights trailers.
When they showed the current Halloween Horror Nights trailer, everyone started to cheer up!
Instead of having a dance performance, this year they did a small skit of a private auction among the riches.
A few auctioned item and person sessions...
The last item 666 is an anime-style of art piece for auction, but the riches didn't appreciate the art piece, and...
... a mysterious figure stood out and punished them...
... The mysterious figure was the artist of the art piece and after punishing, he drew out a large canvas and...
... started drawing. he surely had a nice row of teeth.
Killustrator was the main character for HHN10. You can check Dejiki or YouTube for the scaremony.
Welcome to HHN10!!! BOOM BOOM!
(credit L) After Scaremony, we were escorted asides and they started to release the crowds, everyone started to rush towards any opening nearest to the scare houses.
This is Karen, our beautiful RIP guide for the night
After a short briefing, we followed our guide with a light sword through the crowds to our next tour. The crowd was overwhelming.
For the Opening Scaremony, this year was a nice change to introduce a short skit to introduce the main character for the HHN than dancing only. Nice music and storyline.

Scare Score: NA since it was for entertainment.
Content: 4.5/5 nice skit and well introduced.

Monsters & Manifestations

Always love the exterior of a castle whether is during the day or night.
Our first stop was this Monsters and Manifestations
This was my first time stepping into this place. I didn't know this place and based on the guide's explanation, this place was about the tricks they used in the scarehouses.
The host was sharing with us how they scared the guests and showcased the previous costumes.
These were quite intricate costumes, weren't they?
A photo with these was a MUST.
let's explore other areas
Ooo This is one classic illusion and scare which deployed effectively
Another one which was fun! Shadow Play! Very expressive play which allows a lot of creative and effective ideas.
I remembered it was used in HHN2019 during their silhouette performance
One thing they really put in effort for every HHN, is this scent. They create a new environment by deploying different scent to suit the setting or mood.
Next fun thing was this trick-eye board for guests
I shall give it a try. I wanted to try other poses but too many people, and I don't want to hold them up. This was good enough.
Next, they brought us to a mini stage
Even though I will prefer a bigger stage but I knew it required a deployment from oversea, rehearsing and planning to make a big performance to happen; so a mini one should do for now.
Some nice graveyard setting
But I love this even more. :D
The performance began with the rise of the dead.
Honestly, I don't remember what she was saying during the performance as I was busy snapping pictures.
And be the last person to snap the hall.
After telling us how the scare houses were created, they let us experience a short tour of a scare zone - a narrow passage and distorted setting.
To be honest, I have some wilder ideas to scare our guests... but I don't get a chance to direct a scarehouse... I wish I can give my ideas a chance...
(Credit my sister) All I can, do is just use my imagination and hope one fine day... someone will share the same vision I have.
In Monsters & Manifestations, it was about a short introduction to how USS hosts an HHN. Good idea but just kind of meh... but again, it was their first attempt at such a tour. I will not be critical about it.

Scare Score: 1.5/5 It is not meant to scare us anyway.
Content: 4.5/5 Nice try, entertaining and free drink; good enough

=======================

Operation: Dead Force

Check out the waiting timing to a scarehouse... 140mins!!! But anyway, our first scarehouse was like a resident evil wannabe.
Operation: Dead Force - As mentioned... it was about a secret underground bunker where they were trying to create a superhuman soldier but somehow their experiment failed.

Scare Score: 3/5 The whole place looked rather bright due to the lab lighting etc and the scare factor was typical.
Content: 3/5 Kind of like a resident evil replay. The storyline was just alright. I doubt those regular guests will know its story if without any explanation as they were busy queueing.

=======================

Hospitality of Horror

This place always has the best exterior as compared to other scarehouses throughout the years.
Hospitality of Horror: As for this time, it was about a staycation in a luxury hotel which was abandoned for decades and was owned by a tycoon's wife. Rumour said... the mistress was still alive in a dark place hidden in the big hotel and she will harvest those unlucky guests' bodies and make sure they will stay there forever.

Scare score: 3/5 To put the beautiful exterior aside, the whole setting was nicely decorated. but... the scare factor... predictable. I expected a bit different here...
Content: 3.5/5 Walking along, witnessing how a luxurious hotel started to become a hideous staycation and the mistress waited for you at the end of the passage; no escape seemed like a great villain ending.

====================

The Hunt for Pontianak

Ponianak was back again and this time, it came with a different storyline (approach).
This one was a new approach - Instead of hosting in a scare house, this one hosted outdoors or scarezone and every guest will enter in a one-way direction.
The traffic here was rather slow and not as scary as I thought...
There were a lot of interesting displays without any explanation
Just some weird display items.
There were many potential ways to scare the guests here. There were some scare-actors who managed to scare some guests which brought a smile to me and I can't forget.
There was a story involved in this scare zone. A group of influencers wanted to hunt for ponianak for new interesting content but they didn't know that it will become their last content. Typical ghost story but okay :)

Scare Score: 2/5 Wasted potential opportunities to scare the guest in the open but it got some really great ideas like the camouflaged ghost which works very well!
Content: 2.5/5 The story will require us to read it up but everyone was just busy queuing to get in and the zone was too wide, leaving many empty spaces of nothingness.

===========================

Killustrator: The Final Chapter

Our last scarehouse, the main character for HHN10, the crazy manga artist.
Some text along the queue helped a lot to understand the story better.
As the main character for HHN10, he was a crazy manga artist who drew many previous HHN creatures and they became alive!

Scare Score: 3.5/5 I love the room with a giant page. That was so beautiful. I was impressed by a giant hand and hope they can explore more of it... Other than that... the scares were typical.
Content: 4/5 They recycled previous instalment characters and ended with one crazy character. It took some creative brain to piece them together like reading a manga. Love the artist, thumb up!

===========================

Dark Zodiac

Ooo! The burning exterior at this Scare zone was impressive.
Dark Zodiac? 13th star constellationsZodiac? Fun fact. If you check the horoscopes/star constellations on the star map... there are 13th star constellations on the line of the Sun hence horoscopes were picked but somehow they only need 12 instead of 13. Anyway, this time around, they came out with another new horoscope named Horrorcle (what a pun)
(Credit astronomytrek.com) The constellation Ophiuchus is Greek for ‘serpent-bearer’ and is depicted as a man grasping a snake, represented by the nearby constellation of Serpens. It is sometimes known as the Zodiac’s 13th or forgotten constellation as together with the other 12 zodiac constellations, it lies on the ecliptic or the imaginary circle that marks the Sun’s annual path through the sky.
Here was my task! I wanted to Catch them ALL "horrorscopes"! My 1st one, this one should be Gemini.
2nd one... Hmm... Virgo maybe because feminine vibe
3rd catch...err... Leo???
4th Catch! This one was Epic! Sagittarius
5th one took me a while... Should be Aquarius.
6th - Fish like... Should be Pisces
7th one should be Capricorn!
8th This one was obvious! Scorpio!
I really don't know what you are... Cancer? No... This one doesn't show much characters...
9th This one was unique! I don't know what it was... Aries maybe.
10th... no... This one was not... I missed out on three of them... Libra, Cancer and Taurus...
Trying to find them but my sister and her GF didn't join us... and we took rather long time here...
(Credit L) So I just made some Horror-Pose!
The calling started! The 13th horrorscope started to gather every horoscope...
(Credit L) L and I decided to return to the main tour guide
Watching Horrorcle appear and performed but I missed it...
Loved these theme scare zone, because at least, I can aim to collect them all.

Scare Score: 1/5 They didn't scare anyone but were quite entertaining.
Content: 4/5 Some new ideas and puns with names. The creatures' designs were unique and nice. What a pity was that I didn't manage to complete it.

===========================
(Credit L) Laser tag which we skipped.
Lastly... here came our photo session and it will be...
Dark Zodiac - Horrorcule!
Great to have a close-up picture with her!
Thanks Karen for leading the tour. We had a great time together. Hope next year, we can have you again.
Every year I will have a photo session with my thumb-up buddy. Oh man! I posed wrongly... I should have checked my previous shots and standardised my pose. Anyway here are my memory collection with him below.
2019
2018
2017
2016 another date
2016
I hope I will pose it right next time.
HHN10... still burning during this Halloween month
Time to exit USS
(Credit L) Have my last picture with the globe
and the Minion :3
My collection so far. Since this whale took the damage, next year will go again.
I left some feedback on the food arrangement and a positive review to praise Karen.
Overall... HHN10 was not as big as we expected it to be... You know this is the 10th so it should be BIG, but the pandemic tolled the whole thing. Hope next year will be a great one!

Jeff
