Movie Review - Attack on Titan: Live Movie Part 2

Hi Blog,

Attack on Titan live movie Part 2! It is time to review this movie. (spoiler! Oh well!)

On August, I reviewed part 1 (here is the review ), there were some mixed feeling between fans and freshmen who know nothing about the movie - generally the titans are the main attraction in the big screen - some epic fight scenes between titans and humans eaten by titans.

Apart from the lousy awkward acting from actors, confusing-rushing storyline and lack of character-development. I wished part two will compensate us, but.......

Okay! Let's do it!

===================================================

Plot (SPOILER ALERT)

In the beginning of the movie, they helped to summarise the AOT: part 1 within 5 mins to explain how their world is formed and going against with invasive giants (very Nice animation for that)

Then introducing the actors whom we don't even find any attachment with, and showed us some epic fighting and devour humans scenes, then followed by Eren transformed into titan. So the story continued....

Let's start with the Bad points

1) Some forgotten character development. In this series, Mikasa was so.... errr.... "Dead"!

She hardly speaks in the movie. Even since Part 1, we know nothing about her. So far I only learned that she kick-ass and very important to Eren - the primary objective to protect her. Sorry.... We find hard to attach to her...........

Next is Eren. I wished to see more of him but he looked confused and lost. I only know that he is handsome and never-feel hungry human being. During the interrogation scene, he was fine, but as he went along to Shikishima's plan, he doesn't know what he wants (so do us) We don't know what is his driving force - for the people or the girl he loves.

Sannagi - in this series, we started to see more of him, unlike part 1, we only witnessed he has some WEIRD strength which can flip a titan and holding on an axe. I wondered why is he using an axe than those thingy beside him? He was a family guy - before his death, he told Jean to take care of his family. (maybe I forgot) but but........ we have NO attachment to him yet, and then he did something heroic acts and expected us to feel upset for him. No..... we just watched blankly.

2) Ending is TOO FAST and RUSH around the last moment of the movie. We know that the face-off with colossus titan was inevitable, but......... the reason for that titan to appear was a bit too predictable and too rush -  like as if they are going out of budget. There were many plot-holes waiting for us to CRITISE on - Why does Shikishima helped Eren?! Why didn't General Kubai turns into that giant when the debris fell onto him? Where are the rest of the titans, if they allowed to come in from that hole? WHY need to blow up the holes when Eren (titan) can simply close it with a big rock?

3) Stupid end credit scene.......... Funny moment when the movie ended - they showed there will have somemore scenes after credit. Everyone was forced to sit through a wall of names (nice drawings though) and some people discussed about how disappointing they are with that movie. The end credit scene (less than 30 sec) was like Maze Runner movie and everyone in the cinema was Booing!

Let's talk about the Good Points

1) 45% of the Part 2 has certain elements which we are hoping for - Tension - First is the interrogation scene to find out Eren is a human or titan, he was very confused.

Second is the Captain has a resistance group to go against government, he invited Eren to join his group to bring down government but need to sacrifice human lives which Eren doesn't wish for.

Here is the part I like, the captain explained the whole titan thingy was created by the government to scare people to rely on the government for protection, but ironically, they will accept whatever laws and rules implement by the government. They mentioned Cattle many times, which explained either you want to be cattle in the cage or resist the cattle life for greater freedom!

AOT did a good job to install in-depth story-line in this series.

2) The character development are quite well done for 50%.

There are some characters like Armin who didn't shine in Part 1. Now he played quite importance role in Part 2. Armin stood up to defend Eren during interrogation session, which showed a lot of character development, unlike in Part 1 - he was just too weak.

Next is General Kubai - clearly showed he was a ruthless character in this series, he needed to take extreme move/decision to protect the city. He was also responsible over many deaths and happenings to some unknown experiments. Quite brief though...

Oh! Captain Shikishima! We have to talk about him. In this series, he was very important, despite of some awkward acting scenes, he helped to explain the background and his plan against government. And OMG! I didn't know he was a Titan too! (in fact 65% of my prediction while watching the movie - I already knew it) But.... the ending of him was a bit...... errrr.....

In the series, Souda trying his best to allow us to attach to him, but sadly the movie KILLED HIM OFF too quickly and early too! It was like he was holding a treasure box of the MOST VITAL information, but due to the director or whoever involved, do not know how continue if he is around, so might as well kill him off!

Two more are Jean and Shasa. They tried to explain some background about those characters and how they developed (TRYING) the bound together. Well.... a bit too "convenient".

One of MY Favourite character is Hans. She has never FAILED to bring laughter to the audiences, whenever she reacted toward Titans, weaponry or new things, (like as if she got orgasm over weapons) her reaction was genuine and nature - especially when she howled for victory! Lovable character!

3) Fighting scene - Epic but can't last very long though. It was like Ultraman scene!

The face-off with colossus titan was Woooooooooow but....... nah........ Looked too weak....

===================================================

Conclusion

The whole AOT movie made me feel like watching an Ultraman movie.

and one of most memorable moment was the song - Skeeter Davis - The End of the World. You won't miss that song in that movie. It was a great song. :)

===================================================

Overall: 3.9/5 - Can give a miss if you are AOT fans or have high expectation for this Part 2. Don't waste money. Save time to watch anime.
