Trip - Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum

Hi Blog,

This is a late post supposed to be posted on June but delay. It is about my bros and I went to Lee Kong Chian Natural History Museum located at NUS during June, Introduced by Chace Mao (a Bufflord in instagram - hahahahaha but he is very kind and friendly). Okay! Get back to LKCNHM, it is a newly setup museum in Singapore where displays diversity of life - plants and animals which can be found within Southeast Asia zone.

But one thing about this museum is that you cannot just walk-in as you please, you have to purchase your ticket here (online), choose a time slot and print out.

The exterior of the building looks like a giant fossil rock which we all know that we will "dig in", discover, study more on the animals remains, and knowing their past and how they link to us.

A nice piece of wooden artwork of a whale credit those whoever fund this museum. I don't care much though, but this artwork is Awesome.

If you have time, you can visit the museum shop where sells quite expensive plushie. Even though I like to get one or two but.......... the price......... okay! SKIP! NEXT!

The first carcass you see outside the shop is the dolphin bone.

And there is this EPIC artwork which shows the circles of life. Very impact-ful and amazing work. Thumb up!

After we got in, the quiet museum makes us feel tranquil and placid mind to appreciate the displays and information showed.

First stop is to explain how life appear?

Here is a video about how life started, so that we have a rough idea what we will be expecting.

The museum is divided into many different sections - from Life, Plants, Fungi, Invertebrate, Fish, Reptiles, Birds, Mammals and DINOSAURS!!!

Plants Section

Our first stop is plant section which life begins. I won't explain much as I am no expert; I am there to take pictures and admire the beauty of evolution. Below there are videos to help you to understand certain sections better.

How I wish I can grow this interesting plant!
GIANT FLOWER!
The different rings for different trees
Microorganism!
I like this! Light is Life
AHhhhhh! Chace Mao showed up! He sacrificed his break time to bring us around to explain some interesting facts about certain sections. How nice of him! But my pupils just kept on discussing about how buff he is and laughed at how "buff" my tummy is! =.='" Okay.... At least he has something to show beside his body - his knowledge of most of the animals.

Oily face for both of us.
He explained and brought us around
I was glad beside us, he also helped to answer questions from other visitors too.
My favourite Pitcher Plant displayed.
Fungi Section

Fungi plays an important role in this eco-system, don't look down on them. They are very unique in many ways. And I was impressed how they preserved the specimens. It seemed we are more interested in that. Hahaha....

Molluscs Section

This one kept me excited because we usually thought squid/octopus is separated species from Snail, mussels, clams and oysters. But this fact they are under the same family group.

Porifera, Cnidarian and Ctenophora Section

They have large collection of Sponges and jellyfishes. This section is where we got the chance to see them up-close and safe to carefully observe them. Not much pictures though because we were completed awed by the display.

Woooow Jellyfish Carcass!
Invertebrates - Insects Section

Speaking about invertebrates, the section of Molluscs, Porifera, Cnidarian and Ctenophora are all under invertebrates, and Insects are under Arthropods group - which covered around more than 55% of the collection in the museum! Here are a link of overall useful classification of animals.

Speaking about Metamorphosis. What shocked me is when Bro Mao explained that insects have metamorphosis, we all know that its have forth stages of metamorphosis - eggs, larvae, pupa and adult stage. But the moment he told us that there are insects went through three stages than four, they called this Complete metamorphosis and Incomplete metamorphosis, I was shocked how come I didn't take note of that. I know it is common sense. Here is the video about it.

Why I was shocked because I take information for granted. I was shocked how we human digested information, once we have the information all set in our mind, we have no space or allowance for new information.

Crustaceans Section

Invertebrates - Arthropod group also include Crustaceans. We didn't take much pictures though because Bro Mao had been talking and talking without water for more than an hour - explaining the collection. We were glad of his effort and passion over it. Really appreciated.

Reptile Section

Hmmmmm.... okay we see this at the zoo. So... SKIP! Just provide some videos for education purposes. Hahah

Fishes Section

Not much pictures, because we won't want to stress Bro Mao as he had to leave us alone for work. So we just snapped pictures and everyone was hungry already.

FINALLY GOT TO SEE MY FAVOURITE ANGLER FISH! It is SO SMALL in size.
There are other sections (like mammals and some other reptiles) which we have not completed. Hopefully I can visit there again to complete and fill up with more pictures. We ended our visit with group pictures, Dino-photo session and Selfie. :D

Just some pose.
Wooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow
IT IS TOO HUGE TO FIT IN!

We truly enjoyed the trip and thanks Chace Mao, Bufflord (LOL) explanation which are very very informative. We can come back again LKCNHM.
