Blog - NDP Songs

Hi Blog,

Recently I happened to hear a new NDP song for 2017 (It seems like every year we will have a new song) which somehow sang okay but it got me thinking about all of the past NDP songs. In the past, if we like any song, either we had purchased the album or recorded it on tape or VHS. Now due to the convenience of YouTube, I can listen to the past NDP songs... Awww.. The nostalgic feeling overloaded and I started to shed tear at some of my favorite NDP songs...

I got so nostalgic, suddenly I felt so patriotic, then started to pick my pencil and started sketching to celebrate NS50 with my heartfelt thought toward my NS life.
while I listened my favourite NDP songs on YouTube, I realised that I have been listening to our first National Song and grew with it! Here are the list and my thoughts on NDP songs below.

Stand Up for Singapore (1984)
Our Singapore first NDP song as you can see the video ratio, you will know it comes with ages.

===========================================
Count on Me, Singapore (1986)
My favourite, most nostalgic and proudest NDP song that I had ever sung! I will sing this loud with pride and feeling Singapore is my home, a safe place in the world, it can shed tears too!

===========================================
We are Singapore (1987)
The nostalgic feeling was STRONG with this song!

===========================================
One People, One Nation, One Singapore (1990)
I can remember I was learning to sing this song in my schooling time and felt very positive while singing this.

===========================================
Home (1998)
Decent song and I could sing along :)

===========================================
Together (1999)
I LOVE the Chinese version of this song, Don't you like it? :)

===========================================
Shine on Me (2000)
Have no impression to this song, totally no attachment, sounded like a typical MTV.

===========================================
Where I Belong (2001)
Quite difficult to remember its lyrics but the part of "where I belong" was the only part I can remember.

===========================================
We Will Get There (2002)
Stefanie Sun sang this song and she was our Singaporean's all-time favourite! But Chinese Song doesn't ring a bell for me.

===========================================
One United People (2003)
My favourite NDP song because Stefanie Sun sang it like an angle. :3

===========================================
A Place in my Heart (2003)

I HAVE NEVER EVER HEARD OF THIS SONG AT ALL!

===========================================
Reach Out for the Skies (2005)
Totally have no attachment to this song....

===========================================
My Island Home (2006)
Personally I love the Chinese version, but generally, the song is impactful.

===========================================
There’s No Place I’d Rather Be (2007)
Sounded okay song, trying har the but effort still appreciated because the lyrics are meaningful.

===========================================
Will You (2007)
Hmmm honestly I don't have any DEEP impressive with this song, maybe because I was still a NSF so know nothing about it.

===========================================
Shine for Singapore (2008)
Shine for Singapore is underrated and forgotten NDP song, hope there will have people will love it more, but the MTV was a bit ways off....

===========================================
What Do You See? (2009)
This song too underrated and under appreciated but I love this. But it is definitely one of  my favourite NDP song ever!

===========================================
Song for Singapore (2010)
Very emotional song which triggered my emotions which can shed a tear from my eyes. Great song!

===========================================
In a Heartbeat (2011)
Nice piano music piece and great singing from the artist. One of my heartbeat songs.

===========================================
Love at First Light (2012)
hmmm... Is this even a song for Singapore??? More like Love in Singapore for the wealthy! No deep impression to this song as there are way better than this.

===========================================
One Singapore (2013)
Hoenstly... one of yucky ndp songs... trying to be catchy but I can only remember the part "wooh ho-oh..." so don't quite like it.... so... "noooooooo noooooo" for the rapping part. YUCK!

===========================================
Our Singapore (2015)
one emotional song and can get you sing along - Our home, our heart, our Singapore.

===========================================
Tomorrow’s Here Today (2016)
Dreammmmmm awayyyyy, sound catchy :) Lively song!

===========================================
Because it's Singapore (2017)
It actually sounded okay and catchy as you listened to it often.

===========================================
We are Singapore (2018)
A remix of 1987 song. Hmm... I guess I will prefer the old and classic version because that was how my neuron connect.
===========================================
Our Singapore (2019)
Don't know why... I don't find any connection from this song, just like somebody remix the songs and sound like a song for popular people.
===========================================
Everything I Am (2020)
Due to covid pandemic so this song was not sung or promoted that much.
===========================================
The Road Ahead (2021)
Nice animation and comforting lyrics.
===========================================
Stronger Together (2022)
Have Taufik Batisah to sing a NDP song... Strong card but sadly... Not memorable.
===========================================
Shine Your Light (2023)
The kids seemed to love this. I feel the patriotic vibe was gone... It is more like a group of random famous artists gathered for a song.
===========================================
Not Alone (2024)
Beautifully crafted video attempting to be relatable through its lyrics, scenes, and photos, but the song can't make a lasting impression from the start.
===========================================

I'll update this blog post whenever a new song is released in the future. :) Therefore, there won't be a fixed date for updates. What are your thoughts on NDP songs? Do you have a favourite? I hope you'll share it with me.

I also found a parody version of the 'NDP' song which tries to portray every Singaporean's daily lifestyle.

Sang well and funny because of all the Easter eggs of whatever happened in Singapore during that period - like an NSF had a maid to carry a bag for him, the Singapore swimming team's sexy trunk and the general election epic remark etc. Enjoy!
