Hi Blog!
It is interesting to see how directors recreate the true historical disaster event into a movie by adding in some fictional love story during the event - like Titanic, 2012 etc. I believe there is no other way to attract audiences' interest. And now Here you have it, Pompeii! (You can read up for more detail from the link here)
I went for that movie with my mother with the winning tickets from shawsg. Thank you Shaw.

Back to Pompeii, It was about a true event happened at the early AD, where Pompeii, a city situated near to a volcano (not sure it is a dead volcano in the beginning or they knew it was an active volcano but have never expected it will have such big explosion) which was about to explode. And ya... Everyone in that city were killed and consumed by volcano ashes including the whole city.
From that movie, there was this young guy, Milo when he was young, his family and tribe were mercilessly killed by a Roman Senator.
When he grew up, he was captured as slavery and was bought to become a gladiator. In his journey from Rome to Pompeii, he met this young lady, Cassia who was from a wealthy family, she somehow sensed that he has certain differences among the group of men. Personally will say he was the most handsome and fittest of all, which made him stand out from the rest. That was where the love story began.

Funny and typical events were that Cassia can fell in love to a stranger man within less than five days (movie days) they barely have more than 15 mins of screen time together in that movie. And their love was like "greater than mountain and greater than sea." (Chinese way of saying: 海誓山盟) anyway it was a fake made up love story can be anything ridiculous. If I can remember clearly, there were some scenes really made up (spoilers below)
1) Cassia was locked up in a distanced villa from the arena, and the volcano erupted! Milo (who received ten slashes last night, battled with more 30 warriors and have a big fight with a strong body guard) can run like more than 5-6 km away and saved Cassia. - he seemed like he has unlimited power!

2) when Senator and Milo had a long horse chase and fought for quite some time, the volcano released a big blow knocked out three of them, Senator, Milo and Cassia, senator was chain-locked by Cassia. Milo and Cassia left him alone and ride the HORSE which still stayed there for them while volcano erupting!
3) when they managed to run out from the city, but the horse can't carry them fast enough, both if them decided to stay together and had a great hot kiss. Then the volcano hot ashes consumed them and created a beautiful dark sculpture of both of them kissing. So romantic! Omg! Please! When the hot ashes will roast them painfully, where was it possible to still continue to maintain the kissing position?
Anyway, On the contrary, Milo's relationship with a fellow slave named Atticus is surprisingly well developed throughout the film. In the beginning, Milo learns that he must face Atticus, a man who has been promised freedom after one more battle. Several scenes of dialogue in a prison cell and action in the arena they are forced to fight in give the audience a good feel for who these characters are and give a good enough reason to root for them. And the fighting scene was okay, not too violence because I hate violence show.
2012 disaster CGI effect and detailed setting of Roman period. So you can watch it if you don't have any other better movie titles. And Credit to whoever own the images of Pompeii, I dont own any of it.

Given the film's tagline -- "No warning. No escape." -- it's quite obvious how all of this is going to end, at least in terms of the chance of survival for the characters, but what you aren't prepared for is the final shot before the credits roll.
ReplyDeleteHmmm You pointed out something :) you were right.
DeleteAs for the final shot, I am okay with it actually :)
